Open reflex sight with a fixed 2 MOA green dot, no reticle menu and nothing to cycle through by mistake. RMR footprint, Solar Failsafe backup, and a side-loading battery tray that swaps cells without breaking zero.
Key Features:
Fixed 2 MOA green dot at 540nm, the wavelength the human eye reads most efficiently
No selectable reticle, so the aiming point cannot be changed by an accidental button press
RMR footprint fits directly to RMR-cut slides or to any Picatinny rail via an adapter
Solar Failsafe and a forward-facing photodiode keep the reticle usable as light changes
Eight daylight and four night vision brightness settings with memory recall
Lockout Mode disables the buttons once brightness is where you want it
IP67 sealing, 5000G vibration rating and 42.5g of 7075-T6 aluminium
This is the simpler half of the C-series pair. Where the 507C offers a selectable dot, circle, or circle-dot, the 407C X3 gives you a single 2 MOA green dot and no reticle menu to work through. If you were never going to use the 32 MOA circle, that is not a compromise. It is less to go wrong, and it costs less.
The emitter runs at 540nm, close to the peak of human visual sensitivity, which is why green reads brighter and cleaner than red at the same current draw. Shooters with astigmatism often find it rounder too, where a red dot smears into a starburst. Eight daylight settings and four night vision settings cover the range, and Lockout Mode holds your choice once you have made it.
Fitment is the RMR pattern, which is the reason this platform sells. That means a direct mount to an RMR-cut slide, or to a Picatinny rail through an adapter. For UK shooters the second route matters more, and it opens up rimfire rifles, long barrel pistols, practical shotguns and PCP air rifles. At 1x with unlimited eye relief and a parallax-free sight picture, this is a close-quarters optic, not a substitute for glass.
Holosun's power management remains the reason to buy. A forward-facing photodiode reads ambient light, Solar Failsafe supplements the CR1632 when it runs down, and Shake Awake wakes the optic on movement rather than draining cells in the cabinet. The side tray takes a new battery without dismounting anything.
Adjustments run at 1 MOA per click across ±50 MOA. The 7075-T6 housing is IP67 sealed and rated to 5000G, and the whole thing weighs 42.5 grams. A sensible choice if you want the proven 407C layout, a reticle that suits your eyes, and no features you will not use.

The only meaningful difference is the reticle. The 407C gives a fixed 2 MOA dot. The 507C adds the Multi-Reticle System, so you can switch to a 32 MOA circle or a circle-dot combination. Same RMR footprint, same housing family, same electronics. Buy the 507C if you want the circle. Buy the 407C if you know you never will, and save the difference.
The 540nm green emitter sits near the most sensitive part of the eye's response, so it typically appears brighter and crisper than red at equivalent brightness. Shooters with astigmatism frequently report a cleaner, rounder dot in green than in red.
Yes. Although built as an open pistol optic, the RMR footprint mounts to any Picatinny rail through an RMR-to-Picatinny adapter. That covers rimfire rifles, practical shotguns and PCP air rifles, where both-eyes-open shooting matters more than magnification.
Holosun's specification sheet states 50,000 hours on brightness setting six. Their marketing material claims up to 100,000 hours. Either way, Shake Awake and Solar Failsafe mean the cell spends most of its life idle.
